Trump and Zelensky Clash

The planned minerals deal between the US and Ukraine was cancelled due to the clash between Zelensky and Trump that took place during their oval office meeting. Ukraine had hoped the meeting would advance potential peace talks by bringing about US support with the deal, and in hopes of continuing military aid to Ukraine. 

Trump on his social media stated that “He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office, he can come back when he is ready for peace”. Zelensky emphasized that the US should not trust Vladimir Putin. In response, Trump stated that Ukraine needed to recognize its weak stance three years after the invasion.

Zelensky said that he would be ready to pursue peace if Ukraine received Western-backed security guarantees and wanted Trump to be more on Ukraine’s side. Trump had said that after speaking to Putin that he would stick to peace if it was reached. Ukraine emphasized the countless agreements with Russia that had been broken. Trump and Vance had said that Zelensky had not been thankful enough for the assistance that the US had given to Ukraine. Zelensky, on X, “ Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit. Thank you @POTUS, Congress, and the American people. Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that. He is hoping to return to the white house to continue progress.
