In early September of 2025, citizens of Nepal erupted in riots against governmental corruption. In response to the protests, Nepalese prime minister, KP Sharma Oli, resigned from his position as protesters turned violent. Amidst Nepal’s civil unrest and violent protests, the chaos took an unexpected turn in an impromptu election to nominate an interim prime minister. The election took place on Discord, a popular gaming and chatroom platform, where Sushila Karki was voted to be the interim prime minister. Karki has been recognized for her efforts as chief justice, in working against governmental corruption. However, a year after her appointment Karki was accused of biased treatment of governmental officials and temporarily impeached from her position, which was eventually revoked. As citizens have been satisfied with the selection of Sushila Karki, riots have quelled and the nation has begun returning to normalcy.
